Most of us take heating and cooling forgranted. We expect our heating system to keep us warm during the winter, and we depend on air-conditioning to keep us cool during the summers. Ducted heating and cooling system, thus make a lot of difference related to comfort in our lives.Checkout Heating and Cooling Indianapolis for more info.
When the house is cold in winter or hot in summer the natural reaction is to call for professional service at the latest. Fortunately, there is an alternative solution. You can cut the service cost drastically and keep your heating and cooling system working efficiently by doing some maintenance and quick fixes yourself. But before proceeding, it is important to know how the basic of how ducted heating and cooling system functions.
All climate- control devices or system have more or less three basic components; a source or warmed or cooled air, a means of distributing the air, which is being heated or cooled, and a control used to regulate the system. The source of warm air such as a furnace, and cool air, such as air conditioner, in a house often uses the distribution and control system. If the house is centrally air-conditioned, cool wind probably flows through the same duct that heat does and also uses the regulation of heat and cooled by a thermostat. If there is a malfunction in heating and cooling any of these three basic components may be causing the problem.
Air is Heated and Warmed By Using Fuel
Heating and air-conditioning both works on the principle that heat always moves from the warmer object to a cooler one, just like water flows from a higher to lower level. Furnace and heater put heat into the wind to make your room warmer and air conditioners remove heat to make your home cooler.
All heating and cooling devices burn fuel for being effective. An air conditioner uses electricity. Most home heating devices use gas or fuel oil, other uses electricity. The heat pump which is electrically powered climate control unit both heats as well as cools the wind. In summer it extracts the heat from the wind, which is inside your home. Whereas in winter, it pulls heat from the wind outside and uses this wind to heat the wind inside your house.
When a furnace is turned on, it consumes the fuel power, whether it is gas, oil or electricity. As fuel is burned heat is produced and channeled to all the living areas of your house through ducts. Similarly for cooling also it distributes cool wind through the ducts in various places in your house. The wind is blown out of registers, radiators of heating panels. The Older system uses the heat they produce heat water, which in turn heats the wind in your room. These systems use a boiler to store and heat the water supply which is then regularly circulated as hot water through pipes embedded in walls, floor or ceilings.
When an air conditioner is turned on electrical power is used to cool gas in a coil to its liquid state. Warm wind in your house is cooled by contact with the cooling coils, and the cool wind are channelized to all the rooms of the home through the duct.
Distribution of Heated or Cold Air Through Duct
Once the wind is warmed or cooled as explained above in the heat / cold source it should be distributed to various parts of your homes. This is accomplished with the forced-air, gravity or radiant system. A forced system distributes the heat produced by the furnace or the coolness produced by central air conditioner through an electrically powered fan, which is called the blower, this blower forces the air through a system of metal ducts to the room in your house. As the warm air blows from furnace flow into the room the colder air from the room flows down through another set of the duct, called the cold air return system, to the furnace to get warm and heated.
